Why You Shouldn’t Let Photos Sit in Your Camera Roll
In the winter of 2023, my family had photos taken, and I was so excited to finally have updated pictures. I used them for our Christmas cards, posted some to Instagram, and then… that was it. The rest of the images disappeared deep into my camera roll, never to be seen again.
And here’s the kicker: I made the mistake of screenshotting them instead of properly downloading the files. (I know—rookie move.) So the only versions I had were low-quality screenshots. Fast forward to summer, when I finally tried to print them for my home, and they came out so blurry I couldn’t use a single one. It broke my heart—I had beautiful memories I loved, but I couldn’t actually enjoy them beyond that one Instagram post.
Then came summer of 2025. By this time, I had started my photography business, and we had new photos taken. Again, I posted one online and saved the rest to my phone. And again, they just sat there. Out of all the images we received, there were maybe six that I really loved. But here’s the thing: when you’re given a giant gallery of digital files, it feels like too much work to sift through them over and over. So instead of enjoying them, I just… didn’t.
That’s when it really clicked for me: the photos I loved most deserved better than being buried in a folder or lost in my camera roll.

I also learned firsthand not to wait months before ordering wall art. I finally had my favorite photo from that summer printed for our home, and now every time I walk past it, I smile. I just wish I had done it sooner, because those months of it sitting on my phone were months I could have been enjoying it on my wall.
Digital files are easy to forget. Prints are impossible to ignore. They’re the kind of keepsakes that become part of your daily life, your home, and your family’s story.
