From Teacher to Photographer
I used to be a second grade teacher—and I absolutely loved it. Teaching was more than a job; it was a calling. But when I became a stay-at-home mom, everything shifted. Freshly post-partum, I began to feel like I had lost my purpose– like I was only there to keep this tiny human alive. I know that God has a purpose for me, and walking in that purpose includes using the gifts that He has given me.
One of those gifts is capturing the beauty of a moment. I have always been the sentimental one in my family; my siblings and I have memory boxes – full of kindergarten self portraits, trophies, BFF scrapbooks – my box is filled past the brim. Not because my mom saved more of my things, but because I could never stand to get rid of those tiny trinkets. Every little piece feels like a snapshot of the woman I am today.
That’s why photography brings me so much joy. As a portrait photographer, I get to preserve those fleeting, meaningful moments for others. Life doesn’t always feel monumental—sometimes it feels routine or even mundane. But I believe every stage of life has its own quiet magic. Maybe your first grader is learning to read on their own. Maybe your toddler is discovering their voice. Maybe your seventh grader just found a hobby that makes them feel seen. Whether it’s preserving a milestone like graduation, capturing the intimate moments within a family, or a cozy newborn session at home, those everyday moments are worth remembering. These are the stories I love to tell—the everyday beauty.
So there it is–that’s the heart behind my photography. It wasn’t a perfectly planned transition from teaching to photography; it kind of just happened. But somehow, it feels like I've ended up exactly where I belong.
