Most families start by searching for a “pretty park” or a place with lots of trees. But here’s what I tell every client:


The best location for family photos isn’t just about how it looks… it’s about how it photographs.

  • In the evening → soft, golden, dreamy
  • In the morning → the light falls in the (in my personal opinion) less beautiful area of the park and the magic is gone

  • Pace Park (Salado/Belton area) → romantic, whimsical, full of natural depth
  • Salado Creek → open, relaxed, perfect for movement (especially with little ones)
  • Crossroads Park → dreamy light with tall trees at sunset
  • Nolan Creek / Belton area → variety, water, texture
  • Downtown Belton → classic, architectural, great for seniors and couples


It’s less about picking a specific place—and more about choosing the feeling you’re drawn to.

  • The tones you naturally gravitate toward
  • Whether your space fits better with soft neutrals or warm sunset tones

7. Season Matters (Especially in Central Texas)


Choosing the best location for family photos in Bell County, Texas depends heavily on the season.

  • Spring → wildflowers are beautiful but limit location options
  • Summer → shade is essential, and we avoid long walks
  • Fall/Winter → no vibrant leaves here, so we rely on tall trees and good light


Central Texas doesn’t have dramatic seasonal changes like other states, so we create beauty through light, texture, and intentional location choices.

8. Be Flexible—It Makes a Big Difference


Sometimes the best photos happen when we adjust in the moment.


I’ve had sessions where:

  • We move locations for better light
  • Shift directions based on how the sun is falling
  • Adapt to kids’ energy or weather


For one family, we split time between Pace Park and Salado Creek. The images were beautiful, but looking back, I would have stayed longer where the light was softer. That kind of decision-making is part of the experience I bring, so you don’t have to think about it.
