How to Feel Comfortable in Photos
I’ll be the first to admit it: I am incredibly awkward in front of the camera. I know—ironic, right? But it’s true. I never know what to do with my hands, let alone my face! I critique my dimples, wonder why my eyes look so small…all that to say: I GET IT.
I understand the anxiety that can come with being photographed. That vulnerability? I’ve felt it too. And that’s exactly why, as your portrait photographer, I strive to create an experience that makes you feel comfortable, seen, and confident. Because when you feel good, that confidence radiates—and I get to capture the real, beautiful you.
It all starts with the design consultation. That’s when we talk through all the details—location, outfits, and the types of shots you want. I also take time to ask if there’s anything that you’re insecure about. Not because I agree (I usually don’t!), but because you need to love the images. There have been moments when I absolutely loved a photo, but my client didn’t because of something they’re self-conscious about. That stuck with me. So now, I intentionally ask those questions upfront.
When you arrive for your shoot, I’ll walk you through a few ground rules. For example, I’ll usually pose ladies at an angle for a softer, more flattering look. If men want to appear broader or stronger, we’ll shoot straight-on. If they want to slim down their profile, we’ll use angles too. These little tips may seem small, but they build confidence fast. And confidence? That’s what makes a photo shine.
Whether it’s a senior session, newborn shoot, or family portrait—my goal is always the same: help you feel like your most confident, beautiful, God-designed self.
